Hello Aldridge Families,

My name is Karma Joy Cunningham, and I am both thrilled and honored to join Aldridge Elementary as your new principal. I’ve already heard so many wonderful things about this amazing community, and I can’t wait to partner with you to ensure every student continues to grow, thrive, and reach their fullest potential.

My journey in education began as a PTA mom, and over the past 26 years, I’ve served as a classroom teacher, instructional coach, assistant principal, and for the past 10 years, a principal—first in Omaha Public Schools and, most recently, at Davis Elementary in Plano ISD. These experiences have shaped who I am as an educator and strengthened my belief that strong relationships, shared purpose, and a commitment to every child’s success are at the heart of a great school.

I’m excited to get to know the families, students, and community members who make Aldridge such a special place. Together, we’ll continue to build a safe, inclusive, and nurturing environment where every child is known, valued, and inspired to shine—both academically and personally.

On a personal note, I’m the proud mom of two amazing kidults and Mimi to Madison, who is a sophomore in college. In my free time, you can find me traveling to my favorite place—Maui—spending time with family, or curled up with a good book.

I believe deeply that people come first and that schools grow stronger when we lead with connection, trust, and shared joy. My door will always be open, and I look forward to listening, learning, and growing together as we continue the proud Aldridge tradition of excellence.

I can’t wait to meet our families, celebrate our students, and partner with this incredible community to make every day at Aldridge a place where love for learning and one another shines bright.

I am incredibly excited to serve as the new Assistant Principal of Aldridge Elementary, where our motto is Knowing, Developing, and Biulding, doing what is best for kids.

I was born and raised right here in Plano, Texas, and I have been a proud member of the Plano ISD community for the majority of my life. I attended Memorial Elementary, Armstrong Middle School, and Williams High School, before graduating from Plano East Senior High in 1997. After high school, I went on to attend The University of Texas at Austin. Hook ‘Em Horns! Let’s go Arch! 

With 22 years of experience in education, 21 of which have been spent serving in Plano ISD, I am deeply committed to supporting our students and helping them grow academically, socially, and emotionally. My journey as an educator took me all the way from a 4th grade classroom at Miller Elementary to a classful of seniors at Plano East taking Economics. I’ve also had the privilege of coaching middle and high school basketball for Plano ISD.

For the last four years, I have served as an Assistant Principal at Schimelpfenig Middle School. This role has further developed my leadership skills and has given me a greater appreciation for the impact that positive, collaborative relationships can have on student growth and success.

I am incredibly excited to be joining Aldridge Elementary and to partner with each of you to support our amazing students. I look forward to working together to create an environment where all students feel safe, happy, valued, and motivated to reach their full potential.
